What is the advantage of these tapered leaders and how to do yours? Does anyone know of a guide that shows the strengths and the best line of knots to use? thanks for any help

I admit I have not read all other answers word for word, but here is why the use of a tapered leader: The leader serves a primary objective, to connect to moment to the flight line. But if you were to use just one level (same diameter), a leader from the fly line to fly, he had run in some problems. The cast, the leader of work is the "turn over" of your flight. You can buy tapered leaders, or if you have the desire, time, and inclination, you can learn to tie their own customs. You can save some money in the long run, and can play with the different sections until a leader carried out exactly as you want. I never have time for that, I move on to tying flies. Most people, myself included use of tapered leaders, which Tippet attach a thin piece of lead. This is useful because, like knots and break flies, tapered leader is becoming increasingly shorter, and less efficient to deceive fish. Using tippet lets you keep adding new leader to keep the leader long enough and flexible enough. I usually fish with a 9-foot leader tapered to a 3X (final size) and add Flourocarbon tippet of 18-24 inches depending on the fish and flies I am using. I use a lot of 5X-6X and sometimes-7X tippet (The fly shop can show these things) The fluorocarbon tippet is much more expensive-3 to 5 times longer-13 to 15 dollars a roll instead of $ 3-5 by standard tippet, but theres a big payoff that makes it worth-the flurocarbon is thinner and stronger, and has special properties that make it much more difficult for fish to see. So you can connect more fish and less likely to lose them. Skimping in other areas, but not in his cape, is the sorrow. Good luck!
