What is the material used for the body of an airplane?
The main material for most aircraft is aluminum. Some use other aircraft materials, however. Smaller aircraft are being built more and more carbon compounds and some now are 100% composite. Even planes large are being built with a combination of aluminum and composite materials. Military aircraft have the widest variety, however. The SR-71 is primarily titanium while the MiG-27 and MiG-31 are steel and titanium. Some planes are still built with lighter skin fabric.
